Derby County 0-2 Newcastle United: All The Goals

With a pretty daunting month of fixtures ahead of them, Newcastle United got off to the best possible start with a convincing win and another clean sheet on Saturday night. Making the trip to Derby County’s iPro stadium, Rafa Benitez’s men made it 5 consecutive wins in all competition with 2-0 victory.

After withstanding some mild pressure from the home team in the opening exchanges, Yoan Gouffran (yes, the actual Yoan Gouffran) volleyed in a potential goal of  day, month, season, ever contender directly from a corner. We’ve checked the criteria and it’s a 100% certifiable thunderbastard.

The remainder of the game was a fairly scrappy affair, with Derby dominating the chances but being restricted to shots from distance. Matz Sels only really troubled once in goal, when a Craig Bryson strike needed to be parried away.

With the game winding down though, another Jonjo Shelvey corner was floated to the back post and, with only the onrushing DeAndre Yedlin for company in the box, Ayoze Perez beautifully dropped the cross into the American’s path for a slightly less clinical finish. 2-0, job done, back on the bus for QPR in midweek.

Starting XI (4-4-1-1): Sels, Anita, Dummett, Mbemba, Lascelles, Shelvey, Colback, Ritchie, Gouffran (Yedlin, 73), Diame (Hayden, 88), Gayle (Perez 76).
Subs not used: Darlow, Clark, Lazaar, Mitrovic.

Goals: Gouffran 20 (thunderbastard), Yedlin 91 (scramble).
