We’re calling it; Newcastle United are officially on a hotstreak. Following wins in both league and cup, the Magpies extended their winning run to 4 games with victory over Chris Hughton’s Brighton.
In what was Newcastle’s most assured 3 points of the season, goals from a top-knoted Jamaal Lascelles, and a stunning free kick from Jonjo Shelvey, were enough to settle the contest. The visitors even being reduced to 10 men just before the hour mark.
The game was also notable for including one of the club’s greatest ‘what if’ moments, after Yoan Gouffran nutmegged and opponent, strode through the midfield, and clattered the cross bar with an unbelievable 30 yard strike. Had that gone in, we might well have a new folk here.
