The fixture list for our forthcoming campaign in the Championship is due to be released 9am on Wednesday morning.
Thankfully, it’s also been revealed that the TV picks for the opening weekend will be announced on the same day, allowing us to prepare our travel plans for the August 6th kick-off (though that could technically be Friday August 5th if a match is picked for that time-slot).
The rest of the early televised opening weeks of matches will follow shortly after Wednesday’s announcement.
Sky Sports hold the exclusive TV rights to the Championship this season and last season three marquee matches were shown on the opening day; those time-slots being Friday at 7.45pm, Saturday at 12.30pm and Sunday at 12pm.
There’s been no official confirmation as yet to whether these time-slots will remain this season, though it seems likely.
Newcastle fans can anticipate an away game for the opening encounter as the already revealed Premier League fixtures have Sunderland at home on the opening day to Manchester City, and prior seasons have kept our schedules on alternative days to our rivals.
